Agricultural Waste: Straw, Manure & Crop Residue
Farms make huge volumes of organic leftover β and burning it wastes both material and air. Recovery turns it into soil, energy and feed.
Crop residue (straw, stalks), animal manure and food-processing leftovers are organic gold. Left to rot or burned in the open, they release methane and smoke; recovered, they feed soil and systems.
Recovery Paths
- Compost & mulch β manure and residue back to the field as fertiliser.
- Biogas β anaerobic digestion of manure makes methane for energy (see our biogas guide).
- Animal feed β some residue safely fed or processed.
- Biochar & board β straw pressed into panels or charred to lock carbon.
Why Stop Burning
Open burning wastes nutrients and hurts air quality. Channeling residue into compost and energy keeps the carbon and nitrogen working instead of going up in smoke.
