Used Cooking Oil: Don't Pour It Away
That last bit of frying oil is a resource, not a drain-cleaner. Collect it and it becomes fuel, soap and more.
Pouring cooking oil down the sink looks harmless, but it cools, thickens and joins grease to block sewers β causing costly overflows. A single batch can foul metres of pipe.
The Right Move
- Let the oil cool, then strain and pour it into a sealed jar or bottle.
- Drop it at a collection point, many supermarkets and recycling centres take it.
- Small amounts can go in the general waste once solidified β never down the drain.
What It Becomes
Collected oil is refined into biodiesel, used in soap and cosmetics, or processed into animal feed additives. Turning waste oil into fuel also keeps it out of waterways.
