Ecobricks & Plastic Bottle Bricks
When no recycling exists, packing clean plastic into a bottle locks it away and turns it into a building block. A stopgap, not a solution.
An ecobrick is a plastic bottle stuffed tightly with clean, dry non-recyclable plastic until it is solid. Communities use them to build benches, gardens and small structures.
How To Make One
- Use only clean, dry plastic — no food, no liquids, no labels if avoidable.
- Pack it densely with a stick until the bottle is firm.
- Cap it and weigh it; a good brick is heavy for its size.
Keep Perspective
Ecobricks are a fallback for plastic that cannot be recycled locally — not a replacement for proper sorting and reduction. Real recycling and less plastic remain the better paths; ecobricks just stop loose plastic from polluting in the meantime.
