Schools & Community Sorting Programs
Habits formed young and shared locally stick. Schools and neighbourhoods are where sorting becomes second nature.
Sorting is a behaviour, and behaviours spread through groups. A school or community that makes the right bin obvious and normal gets far higher participation than any poster alone.
What Works
- Clear, colour-coded bins with pictures, not just words.
- Students or residents leading the program as "sorting champions".
- Visible results — share how much was collected and where it went.
- Tie it to lessons: science, citizenship and maths all fit.
Start Small
Pick one stream (say paper or bottles), prove it works, then expand. Free posters and guides help — see our handwritten poster library and the sorting quiz.
